Demolition begins at Copperas Hill postal sorting office

Demolition is underway at Copperas Hill sorting office after £100m plans by Liverpool John Moores University to refurbish it and put a football pitch on the roof were scrapped.
Copperas Hill, near Lime Street station , was a sorting office from 1977 to 2010, when operations moved to Warrington. I was lucky enough to gain access back in 2012 to document the interior, prior to the building being used as part of the Liverpool Biennial. It was a really interesing personal project, as much of the space was exactly like it was when it closed down for business. The University is planning new buildings on the land - it is a key site in the city centre, right near Lime Street station - so it will be interesting to see what is developed.
